Back in May, we were very proud to support the DIY SOS Big Build project in Beverley. We donated two of our unique high-attenuation SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) planters for Cherry Tree Youth Hub’s new purpose-built centre.
The donated SuDS planters will manage rainwater runoff and enhance biodiversity, contributing to a greener, more sustainable future for the youth centre and the wider community.
“It was a privilege to work with our partners at Rescue2, donating two of our SuDS and BNG planters to the DIY SOS Big Build in Beverley,” said Daniel Gray, Head of Utilities at BluWater Solutions. “Seeing so much achieved in such a short time frame was truly astonishing. We are incredibly proud to have been a small part of something that will make a big difference to the lives of young people in this community. Huge thanks to everyone who pitched in to make it happen for Cherry Tree Youth Hub.”
Previously operating from makeshift setups, including gazebos and car boots, the Cherry Tree Youth Hub now boasts a space designed to offer stability, safety and inspiration to the local youth. The ambitious project was delivered in record time by the DIY SOS team, volunteers and generous partners.
We worked in collaboration with installation specialists Rescue2, contributing the planters and necessary fill materials – including specialist SuDS soil and deadwood habitat material. With just 24 hours’ notice, we prepared and delivered the units.
When unexpected challenges arose on site, including the need for additional fittings, we quickly stepped in to assist – ensuring the system was seamlessly integrated and fit- for-purpose from day one.
Tony & Jo who run the Cherry Tree Youth Hub said: “ The Suds’ (Sustainable Drainage Systems) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) planters are a fantastic addition to the youth centre, without these additions it was touch and go whether we would get the planning over the line as we had to meet biodiversity requirements and sustainability for nature in the area. The planters also help us to educate young people about nature & habitats, the planters have built in big hotels & bee hotels, the water run of from the nature roof runs into the planters where we have planted herbs, tomato plants & flowers. a fantastic addition to our building, we can’t thank the team enough, a massive thank you for your support from the team at Cherry Tree.”
Our sister brand, Rolawn®, a leading name in horticultural and landscaping products, was also able to support the build with a much-needed donation of its premium-quality Medallion Turf®, at the eleventh hour, to help dress the site in time for the ‘big reveal’ to the community.
The show is due to air on BBC One, Tuesday 30th December at 20:00, and on BBC Two, Friday 2nd January at 13:35.
