SuDS Retrofit Solutions
Hydrorock natural aquifer blocks for reliable retrofit water management
Flexible, low-impact installation
Smaller, shallower excavations requiring less digging, and minimising site disruption. Hydrorock blocks are quick to install with simplified logistics - ideal for faster, easier deployment for projects on tight timelines.
Modular and configurable
Systems can be tailored and dispersed to suit specific site layouts and constraints. Ideal for complex retrofits requiring a combination of infiltration, attenuation and irrigation strategies.
Adaptable to complex sites
Work-arounds made simple: a variety of block sizes and modular options solves in-ground challenges of difficult sites making it easy to address hidden services, utilities and other underground issues.
Optimised for retrofit and phased projects
Supports phased installation as can be installed in stages without compromising performance. The range of block sizes deals with challenging, or unusually shaped sites.
Sustainable
Made from recyclable materials, and have minimal, straightforward maintenance requirements, with no shut-down required, therefore keeps costs low.
Reliable performance
The long-term integrity of Hydrorock offers consistent, predictable performance throughout the system’s 75-year lifespan, maintaining the same level of reliability over its lifetime as the day of installation.
Our natural aquifer blocks accommodate a range of retrofit scenarios, covering all sectors and at all scales, from the smallest residential, to the large public or commercial projects.
Hydrorock delivers unmatched flexibility in design, installation and application – ideal for complex projects with multiple functional requirements and where residents or site users are already present.
Installation is significantly simpler and faster. Compact excavations reduce disruption, minimise vehicle movements, eliminate the need for extensive shoring and lower the number of personnel working in the ground – improving on-site safety.
The modular nature of Hydrorock allows for custom layouts using small, interconnected blocks that easily adapt to irregular, narrow, or otherwise challenging site conditions, all while minimising disturbance to existing occupants.
Crucially, the system offers real-time adaptability: if unexpected underground obstacles are encountered, the design can be adjusted with minimal delay. This design agility stands in stark contrast to traditional systems, which require large, inflexible, highly disruptive excavations.
Routine maintenance-free lifetime system integrity
Not only is Hydrorock, fast, flexible and safer to install, once installed, it’s extremely efficient, requires no routine maintenance, keeps water clean and on site, and maintains local nutrient neutrality.
- A solid structure, with a loading strength of up to 4,000 kg per m2, Hydrorock systems prevent the risks associated with solutions that create underground voids.
- The geotextile membrane wrap stops root penetration and soil influx keeping the natural aquifer blocks intact and structurally sound.
Because of these properties, there is no requirement for routine maintenance and the lifetime integrity of the whole system is ensured, with consistent operational performance maintained.

Installation
Supplied pre-wrapped, Hydrorock significantly streamlines handling. For most applications, it requires a smaller excavation footprint and fewer blocks compared to traditional alternatives, allowing for quicker and more straightforward installation.
- Quick, simple installation for minimal disruption.
- Excavation volume scaled to match the system.
- No need for specialist installation engineering or equipment, with simple snap-together fittings.
- Normally installed in a module three blocks wide, to allow the system to self-vent. If human error compromises the filter, the entire system can be flushed.
- Built-in perforated pipe allows rapid water inflow and storage.
- For maximum flexibility, the system can be placed around existing infrastructure, including pipes and cables.
- Laying the blocks on a 100mm layer of sand aids infiltration from the module into the surrounding soil and the discharge of water.
