SUDS Attenuation Solutions
Sustainable natural aquifer block solutions for attenuation
Configurable
Enables easy management of unexpected in-ground issues, including hidden services and utilities
Evenly dispersed system
Gives greater volume to area for quicker infiltration
Optimises land use
Dispersed modules allow full use of land
Cohesive systems
Hydrorock attenuation systems are designed to work with other Hydrorock systems, from infiltration to ClaySolve and irrigation systems, for versatile, area-wide solutions
Structurally sound
Solid modules are formed by the blocks, with zero voids, root penetration, nor potential collapse
Minimal excavations
No need for large-scale, centralised excavation
Phased installations possible
Giving more flexibility, reducing disruption and lowering costs
Buffers and filters
As the system absorbs rainwater, the geotextile membrane wrap filters out impurities.
Hydrorock natural aquifer blocks deliver flexible and sustainable solutions to buffer, attenuate and manage storm-event rainfall.
Hydrorock systems can offer different levels of water management, from complete attenuation and release into adopted or other off-site sewer systems, through to connection with other Hydrorock elements to buffer or infiltrate over a wider site area.
Design detailing
Environmentally friendly, effective SuDS attenuation
Hydrorock natural aquifer blocks are just that, natural aquifers. They are manufactured from stone wool to absorb water like a sponge and retain it, before slowly dispersing it.
This natural attenuation system uses the absorption power of Hydrorock blocks, with an outer impermeable membrane to retain water in the module which is then released into the nominated outlet system.
In addition, our Hydrorock attenuation systems can be used with other Hydrorock SuDS systems such as infiltration, ClaySolve, rainwater harvesting and irrigation, according to site conditions such as soil health and structure.
Enhancing the capture and use of valuable rainwater directly on site supports better soil quality and stability, while also reducing environmentally damaging runoff and waste.
Maintenance-free lifetime system integrity
- A solid structure, with a loading strength of up to 4,000 kg per m2, Hydrorock systems prevent the risks associated with solutions that create underground voids.
- The geotextile membrane wrap stops root penetration and soil influx keeping the natural aquifer blocks intact and structurally sound.
Because of these properties, there is no requirement for routine maintenance and the lifetime integrity of the whole system is ensured, with consistent operational performance maintained.
Helps solves the challenge of awkward sites and limited spaces
The unique versatility and flexibility of this system, right up and during installation, makes it ideal for green or brown field new builds, or retrofitting within the built environment.
Separate modules can be installed retrospectively alongside existing installations and other underground obstacles, with ease. It is even possible to position blocks next to standing buildings.
Cost-effective construction with optimal land use
Hydrorock blocks come pre-wrapped, avoiding the need for post-install work and therefore limiting excavation requirements to only be as large as the volume required.
Being a solid composition, the system can be installed in close proximity to buildings, maximising site potential.
What’s more, by placing a series of smaller modules across a site an extensive construction exclusion zone is avoided, which would normally be required around a centralised underground crated water sump in a large void. This enables the construction of more properties, increasing the value of a development.

Installation
Supplied pre-wrapped, Hydrorock significantly streamlines handling. For most applications, it requires a smaller excavation footprint and fewer blocks compared to traditional alternatives, allowing for quicker and more straightforward installation.
- Quick, simple installation for minimal disruption.
- Excavation volume scaled to match the system.
- No need for specialist installation engineering or equipment, with simple snap-together fittings.
- Normally installed in a module three blocks wide, to allow the system to self-vent. If human error compromises the filter, the entire system can be flushed.
- Built-in perforated pipe allows rapid water inflow and storage.
- For maximum flexibility, the system can be placed around existing infrastructure, including pipes and cables.
- Laying the blocks on a 100mm layer of sand aids infiltration from the module into the surrounding soil and the discharge of water.
