SuDS Infiltration Solutions

Sustainable natural aquifer block infiltration solutions

Fully dispersed and scalable

The system distributes volume over a wide area, allowing faster water infiltration and greater capacity with minimal disruption. Modules can be installed in phases, enabling flexible, lower-cost rollouts.

Compact and non-invasive installation

Requires only small-scale excavations - no need for large, centralised digs. This makes it ideal for sites with hidden or unknown underground services and utilities.

Optimised land use

Dispersed modular design maximises available land, avoiding the space demands of traditional systems.

Highly configurable & compatible

Designed for adaptability. Hydrorock systems can integrate seamlessly with attenuation, ClaySolve and irrigation setups to create area-wide solutions tailored to specific needs.

Durable and secure in-ground performance

Modules are solid, without voids. This prevents root intrusion and collapse, offering a robust, long-term solution.

Preserved soil health

The system supports consistent site-wide soil quality and natural conditions, avoiding degradation from heavy infrastructure.

Hydrorock infiltration solutions

Hydrorock natural aquifer blocks provide sustainable and versatile solutions for managing stormwater, promoting infiltration directly into the soil. These infiltration systems can be seamlessly integrated into comprehensive on-site water management strategies and combined with other Hydrorock SuDS components—including attenuation systems, ClaySolve, rainwater harvesting, and irrigation.

By retaining and reusing valuable rainwater where it falls, these systems enhance local soil stability and health while significantly reducing the need for wasteful and environmentally damaging offsite discharge.

Benefits of a dispersed system

Spreading aquifer blocks over a site, increases the ratio of surface area to volume, for faster infiltration.

  • Dispersal enables the use of areas that are currently unsuitable for infiltration, optimising the value of a site.
  • Dispersal creates consistent soil conditions across a site, preventing dry areas and saturated patches.
  • The system install can be phased, making it more flexible, less disruptive and cheaper.

Durable, Low maintenance, Performance for life

  • Hydrorock aquifer blocks deliver a solid solution, with a loading strength of up to 4,000 kg per m2. This avoids the potential collapse of solutions which create a near void in the ground.
  • The blocks’ solid structure cannot collapse, and their geotextile membrane wrap prevents root penetration and soil influx.
  • This minimises maintenance and gives lifetime integrity to the whole system, allowing operational performance to be maintained.

Ideal for challenging sites and restricted spaces

Additional Hydrorock modules can be added with ease post-installation, they can be placed alongside other underground obstacles or even next to the existing walls of buildings. This adaptability makes the system ideal for greenfield or brownfield new builds, or for retrofitting within the existing built environment.

Smarter Land Use, Lower Build Costs

The pre-wrapped blocks avoid the need for excessive groundworks, with excavation only needing to be as large as the volume required.

The solid nature of the blocks allows you to position the infiltration system closer to buildings, to capitalise the site potential. By distributing smaller Hydrorock modules across the site, the need for a large, centralised excavation is eliminated – as is the extensive construction exclusion zone that typically comes with underground crated sumps. This approach not only simplifies installation but also frees up more usable space, increasing the number of properties that can be developed and maximising both land value and construction returns.

Resources

ClaySolve infiltration

Hydrorock natural aquifer blocks offer an effective and environmentally friendly solution for managing surface water infiltration on clay soil. When installed in boreholes, the blocks create natural conduits that enable rapid percolation of stormwater down to the underlying permeable layers, supporting efficient onsite drainage.

Installation

Supplied pre-wrapped, Hydrorock significantly streamlines handling. For most applications, it requires a smaller excavation footprint and fewer blocks compared to traditional alternatives, allowing for quicker and more straightforward installation.

  • Quick, simple installation for minimal disruption.
  • Excavation volume scaled to match the system.
  • No need for specialist installation engineering or equipment, with simple snap-together fittings.
  • Normally installed in a module three blocks wide, to allow the system to self-vent. If human error compromises the filter, the entire system can be flushed.
  • Built-in perforated pipe allows rapid water inflow and storage.
  • For maximum flexibility, the system can be placed around existing infrastructure, including pipes and cables.
  • Laying the blocks on a 100mm layer of sand aids infiltration from the module into the surrounding soil and the discharge of water.
